Quick Start Guide to the IP Star,

  1. Before You Start :
  Subscribe to an Internet access account from your local high quality ISP. You'll be given the following information:  
 
(1) the local Internet access phone number
(2) an User Name or User ID
(3) a Password
 
     
  Note:  IPStar functions only with standard PPP (Point-to-Point) Internet access. It is not compatible with certain proprietary commercial services, such as American Online (AOL).  

  2. Installation Of IP Star :
  Please refer to the following graph for installation.
(If you have an answering machine, connect it between IPStar and your telephone.)		  
 

   
  3. Input Data From Telephone Keypad :
  Note Use a regular single-line telephone for data input.  
     
     
 

   
  4. Input Basic Information :
     
 

(1) Press and hold button for 2 seconds and the screen will show ISP PHONE NO. Pick up the telephone and press to edit this option.

  (2) Follow the above character conversation chart to input your Internet access phone number. Press the button to save and exit.

  (3) Press on your telephone keypad and the screen will show  ISP USER ID. Press to edit this option, and refer to above table to input data.

 
 

(4) Input your USER ID by your telephone keypad. Press on your IPStar to save and exit.

  (5) Press again and the screen will show  ISP PASSWORD. Press to edit this option.

  (6) Input your ISP PASSWORD. For example: to enter "123", press on your telephone keypad. Press on your IPStar to save and exit.

  (7) Now you've entered basic required information. Press several times until you see   EXIT SETUP. Press to save and exit.

   
  5. Input Data Required For IP Star To Phone Mode :
   
 

(1) Press and hold button for 2 seconds and the screen will show  ISP PHONE NO. Pick up the telephone handset and press several times until the screen shows  ITSP SETUP.

  (2) Press and the screen will display  ITSP ACCOUNT. Press again to edit this option.

  (3) Enter the 10-digit ITSP account number. Press on your IPStar to save and exit. (You must have a valid ITSP account in order to make an IPStar-to-Phone call. If there's no balance remained in your ITSP account, you can visit our web site at
  (4) Repeat the above procedure to input  YOUR PHONE NO ,  LONG DIST CODE ,  INT'L CODE, and  COUNTRY CODE. For example, the LONG DIST CODE in US. Is 1; INT'L CODE is 011; COUNTRY CODE is 1.

  (5) You have now entered required information for IPStar-to-Phone mode. Press several times until you see  EXIT TO MAIN. Press to save and exit.

   
  6. IP Test :
  After you completed 4. Input Basic Information, you can now perform ISP test to verify if you have entered correct data to make an Internet connection.  
   
 

(1) Press and hold button for 2 seconds and the screen will show  ISP PHONE NO. Pick up the telephone handset and press several times until you see  INTERNET SETUP.
  (2) Press followed by a and you will see  ISP TEST on the screen.

  (3) Press to start ISP Test. IPStar will use the ISP account information you entered. Please wait for the testing result. This test will take from 30 seconds to 2 minutes.

  (4) After the ISP Test is completed, there're two possible results:
(1) If the screen shows  Passed...Wait, you've successfully completed your setting.
(2) If the screen shows  Failure...Wait, there might be some errors while you entered your information or the Internet is heavily congested at this time. Please try to execute the ISP test again. If the result remains unchanged, please go back to Section 4 to check and re-enter the required data, or refer to Appendix B for more details.

  (5) Press several times until the screen shows  EXIT TO MAIN. Press to quit this mode, and press several times until you see  EXIT SETUP. Press another to leave Configuration Mode.



 
 
   
  Congratulations! You've successfully completed your settings. You may select a desired mode to speak to a friend over Internet by the following methods.

Note: If you see the @ sign flashing on the screen, it means your InterStar is not connected to Internet and can only work in a closed TCP/IP network.
   
  1. IP Star To Phone Mode :
 

(1) Pick up the handset and press the button on IPStar to dial our ISP.
  (2) Please wait until you hear a ready tone. At this moment, you will see  Ready for Dial on the screen blinking.
  (3)You may dial any long-distance or international telephone number as you normally would form your touch-tone phone.
For example: To make an international call from U.S. to Japan:

[International code] + [Japan country code] + [Japan area code] +
[ Japan telephone number ]
011 81 3 55551234
You would dial from U.S.:
To make a long-distance call within U.S.:
[Long Dist Code] + [Area Code] + [Telephone Number]
1 212 5551234
You would dial from U.S.:
  (4) You can see your Internet connecting status on the screen of your IPStar. If you see the @ sign on the screen, that means you're on Internet already. You can also see your ITSP account balance on the screen.
  (5) After you dial the desired telephone number, you can either hang up the phone to wait for ringing, or just hold the handset. Once your phone rings, you can pick up the phone and talk over Internet.
     
   

  2. IP Star To IP Star :
 
 

(1) Confirm that the receiving party is also equipped with an IPStar, which has completed proper setting as well.
  (2) Call the receiving party the way you normally would. When your call is being answered, let the receiving party know you'll be using IPStar-to-IPStar mode.
  (3)Only one person, either the caller or the receiving party should press the button the IPStar. At the same time, IPStar will automatically disconnect your long-distance call and switch to Internet.
Note: The party who did not press the button should wait for 2 long signals and see In Progress on the screen of the IPStar.
  (4) You can either hang up the phone to wait for ringing, or just hold the handset. Once the Internet connection has been completed, your telephone will ring. You can pick up the phone and talk as long as you like over Internet.
   
  3. Direct Link Mode :
 

(1) Make sure the receiving IPStar is on Internet already.
  (2) Pick up the handset and press the button on your IPStar.
  (3)Please wait until you hear a ready tone.
  (4) Once you hear the ready tone, you may start to dial the six-digit ID of the remote IPStar in the following format: + [Six-Digit ID of remote IPStar]
For example, you would dial
  (5) The screen will indicate the progress of the connection. You may hang up the phone to wait for ringing, or just hold the handset. Once your phone rings, you can pick up the phone and talk over Internet.


Note:
If you find any serious delay or cut off in the middle of words while using IPStar, it is an indication of congested data transmission between ISPs. You can hang up the try the call again later to see if the transmission improves. If you have any further questions, please refer to the IPStar Operation Manual.
